April is recognized as National Donate Life Month, a period dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for organ donors and highlighting the urgent circumstances faced by the nearly 110,000 people currently waiting for a transplant in the United States. Tragically, each day, approximately 13 individuals pass away because a suitable organ is not available in time. Even for those fortunate enough to receive a transplant, the journey continues long after surgery, requiring ongoing emotional support, guidance, and assistance with the financial and logistical challenges of navigating the healthcare system.

In 2025, Dr. Bronner’s launched the Organ Transplant Giving Circle, a philanthropic initiative developed in partnership with their technology ally, Purpose in Expenses (PIE). This program was established by employees who have experienced organ donation firsthand—either as recipients or living donors—bringing a deeply personal perspective to the distribution of charitable funds. PIE’s innovative giving platform helped generate nearly $20,000 in donations, reinforcing the initiative’s impact and reach.

The Giving Circle embodies Dr. Bronner’s Cosmic Principle #6, “Fund & Fight for What’s Right,” reflecting the company’s broader dedication to advancing social good. The initiative was created to support causes closely aligned with the employees’ own experiences and values, particularly those that provide direct assistance to transplant patients and their families.

Participants in the Giving Circle undertook extensive research to identify small-scale, grassroots organizations that offer essential services such as one-on-one mentorship, emotional support, and practical assistance for transplant recipients. After careful consideration, the initiative directed its funds to two nonprofit organizations: the American Transplant Foundation (ATF) and Organ Transplant Support (OTS).

The American Transplant Foundation provides personalized guidance to transplant recipients and their families, helping them navigate the complex emotional, medical, and financial challenges associated with transplantation. Its flagship program, the 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program, connects patients with over 350 trained mentors fluent in 17 languages, offering practical advice, emotional support, financial aid, and strategies for donor identification. Thanks to contributions from Dr. Bronner’s and PIE, the organization raised $253,000 during its 20th-anniversary celebration.

Organ Transplant Support, headquartered in Chicago, offers peer mentoring, educational workshops, and community support for transplant recipients and their families. Their services extend from pre-transplant patients to individuals in recovery, including one-on-one mentoring, weekly support groups, and monthly educational sessions. This network ensures that recipients have access to guidance and companionship throughout the entire transplant process, fostering a sense of community during an often overwhelming period.

To honor National Donate Life Month, Dr. Bronner’s hosted an internal event featuring personal stories from a living donor and a kidney recipient who are both members of the Giving Circle. Lifesharing, the organ procurement organization for San Diego and Imperial Counties, also participated, educating employees on organ donation and encouraging registration. Employees were invited to consider becoming registered organ donors, highlighting the power of individual action in saving lives.

Through the Organ Transplant Giving Circle, Dr. Bronner’s has significantly contributed to supporting transplant recipients and raising awareness about organ donation. The company continues to inspire its employees and broader communities to engage in this life-saving work. For more information or to register as an organ donor, visit OrganDonor.gov.
